This time of year, holiday lights twinkle in the shop windows that line Downtown Newberg’s charming First Street. Within, shelves are stocked with merchandise for everyone on a shopper’s list, with friendly proprietors waiting to greet you. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on 12 independently owned retail shops downtown. Each of these features gift items made right here in Newberg, along with a wonderful variety of goods from beyond. We hope you’ll use our list below to explore the "12 Shops of Christmas” — all located within just five city blocks — to plan your own relaxed, walkable holiday excursion to shop local this year.
We’ll be sharing virtual tours of each shop on Taste Newberg’s social media feeds for 12 consecutive days, beginning on Saturday, November 28, Small Business Saturday. Planning a visit and wondering when to shop? On weekdays, you’re most likely to find entire shops to yourself, while on the first weekend of December, you’ll find an extra festive atmosphere, with the start of Newberg’s Festival of Trees (decorated trees throughout downtown). Local eateries and coffee stops abound between shops offering food and warm drinks to-go, and there’s ample free parking throughout downtown.
