For a diner experience of pancake stacks, four egg omelets and biscuits and gravy, head to J’s Restaurant & Lounge, which has been serving Newberg since 1975. Black Bear Diner also has an extensive menu and serves breakfast all day (starting at 6 am), with something for everyone. The airy yet homey space also makes it a great choice for a large group.
For something quicker and more casual, both Coffee Cat and Lyrics Cafe are open daily with freshly baked pastries and expertly made espresso drinks featuring local roasters. Coffee Cat is known for its cinnamon rolls, bagel breakfast sandwiches, and bowls, and down-to-earth atmosphere. Lyrics Cafe is a favorite of George Fox University students, with avocado toast, breakfast burritos, and breakfast sandwiches. Both cafes offer multiple gluten-free options as well.
The most elegant breakfast and brunch spot in town is JORY at The Allison Inn & Spa. Reservations are recommended for a table to enjoy their signature eggs benedict, house-smoked salmon lox plates, and brioche French toast with seasonal fruit. For weekend brunch, the menu expands with Dungeness Crab Benedict, Shakshouka, Chilaquiles, and myriad treats from their incredibly talented pastry department.
Two local chef-owned wine country restaurants in Newberg are also excellent choices for weekend brunch: Newbergundian Bistro and Ruddick/Wood. Newbergundian’s brunch menu features favorites like Chicken & Waffles, Steak & Eggs, and Eggs Benedict, as well as more lunch-centric choices like Caesar Salad, Croque Monsieur, and the chef’s take on an amazing avocado toast. Ruddick/Wood is known for its local ingredient sourcing, which can be tasted in the Hazelnut Biscuit & Gravy, Dungeness Crab & Bay Shrimp Cakes with local greens, and vegetable frittata. Both spots also have full bars for Bloody Marys, Mimosas, and other brunch cocktails.
