Hidden Winery Reveals a Wine Taster’s Dream

Whether it’s a weekend getaway from Portland, or you’ve ventured here from points, further away, L’Angolo is the wine tasting experience you’ve dreamt about. Like following clues through an ancient vault, your adventure winds you up a gravel road. Tall firs and ancient forest finally give way to neat rows of grapevines. This is the place.

You’d be forgiven if you expected the road concealed a mysterious speakeasy. Instead, L’Angolo has one of the newest tasting rooms in the area. You’ll feel at home here. Floor to ceiling windows in a modern Northwest designed building greets you with a vibe that’s more like stopping over at a friend’s house than the saloon you envisaged. The reward for your journey are their excellent wines. No matter if you stand at the counter or burrow yourself into the couch by the fireplace, you’re in for an experience.

Chase Renton is the winemaker here. His Pinot Noir and Chardonnay will take you on a virtual tour of the 20-acre biodynamic estate. The artistry and grapes are rooted in Burgundy. It’s an approach that allows the fruit and the land to shine through in the wine, and it’s delicious. They promise you’ll feel like family, and that’s not far from the truth. It’s a beautiful taste of Newberg that you’re sure to love.
