In Wine Country, this is our favorite time of the year. The vines are leafing out, and the new vintage is popping out. It’s May in Wine Country — the Willamette Valley Wineries Association annual celebration of Oregon Wine. Most of our 70 Newberg-area wineries will be hosting special events and offering new wine releases. The month culminates with Memorial Day Weekend: the biggest wine tasting weekend of the year. With limited seating, this year, many of the wineries are requiring reservations, so now is the time to make your plans for the month. Here’s a sampling of some of the wineries and their plans for May in Wine Country.

Adelsheim – Looking for a Mother’s Day idea? The venerable winery has partnered with Portland company Solabee Flowers & Botanicals to create a gift for Mom. A 2020 bottle of Artist Series Rosé accompanied by a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers and greenery, sourced solely from local farmers and Solabee partners.
- 5/8 – 5/9 – Mother’s Day Wine Release Party. Noon to 5 PM – Featuring the release of their 2020 Pink Pink Wine and 2020 White White Wines.
- 5/22 – 5/23 & 5/29 – 5/30 – Blind Tasting Event – Join the winery to taste various wines in a blind test. Learn more on their website.
- 5/7 to 5/9 – Mother’s Day Weekend – Et Fille is offering a special flight of Sparkling Wine, Viognier, Rosé, and Pinot Noir. Every mom will receive a flower. An appointment is required. — The winery is also offering a virtual tasting on May 8, that will include a “wine tasting 101” class, explaining how wine is made, and how to wine taste. Email the winery to register – it’s free!
- 5/30 – Noon to 2 PM – Do you love cheese and wine but aren’t really sure how to pair them together? Kristen of Good Company Cheese Bar & Bistro is going to drop by the tasting room to lead a class! This two-hour workshop will up your expertise and satisfy your palate. Click here to reserve your space.
Distaff Wines – Nomen Wines – Mother’s Day will be extra special at Distaff and Nomen Wines. For starters, Lane Norberg will be performing his indie-folk music. Renegade Catering will be on-hand serving up brunch items made with locally-sourced ingredients. And of course, there will be wine! It all starts Sunday at 10 AM and goes until 3 PM.
Domaine Divio — always puts on great events. This year, they’re planning live music and food bites to accompany their French-style wines. It’s Saturday, May 29th, 11 AM to 4:30 PM. Reservations required.
Lady Hill Winery — Our Marion County neighbor features live music outdoors on the weekend. The concerts sell out so call ahead to reserve your space. Their schedule is below. Call the tasting room at 503-678-1240 to make your reservation.

REX Hill – They’re hosting a Mother’s Day Sparkling Brunch. Chef David Sapp will be preparing a decadent three-course brunch to be paired with their limited-release REX HILL sparkling wines. Get your tickets here.
ROCO Winery — For Mother’s Day weekend, the winery is celebrating with their latest Brut Rosé, paired with three locally made Briar Rose Creamery cheeses. Memorial Day Weekend will be celebrated with Gravel Road mini-flights, including their Chardonnay, Rosé, and Pinot Noir.
