Native American Heritage Month

Since Jack Strong arrived as Executive Chef of JORY at The Allison Inn & Spa, he has incorporated his indigenous heritage as a member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians into his menus and food programs. His experience as a James Beard nominated chef of the five-star restaurant (Kai in Arizona) with his family foodways informs his approach, and he works closely with the Master Gardener in The Allison’s kitchen garden.

Celebration Of First Foods

This year, The Allison Inn has several events planned to celebrate Native American Heritage Month in November. On November 1st, Executive Chef Strong and his team at JORY will invite two talented Native American chefs, Nephi Craig (renowned White Mountain Apache and Navajo chef and founder of The Native American Culinary Association and Café Gozhóó) and Freddie Bistoie (award-winning Diné chef and author of The New Native Kitchen) to join him in preparing an unforgettable Celebration of First Foods Dinner. This multi-course meal will feature wine pairings from indigenous winemakers. Tickets are $195 per person, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the NW Native Chamber.

In partnership with the NW Native Chamber, The Allison will host a marketplace from 1 to 4 p.m. featuring Indigenous makers and vendors and guest chef cooking demos and tastings. Tickets are $65 each. Throughout November, JORY will feature a special collaboration dish created by Chef Strong and one of the guest chefs from the First Foods dinner to benefit a culinary program in Siletz K-12 schools. More information, tickets for these events, and a lodging package encompassing the whole experience can be found at https://theallison.com/resort/native-american-heritage-month.
